Rick Santorum was endorsed by Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine Wednesday, the same day President Obama has the Foo Fighters fundraising for him in Los Angeles. Who wins this battle of the bands' endorsements? You'd think Obama, because the Foo Fighters were once pretty popular and people still remember them. But you're wrong. The Foo Fighters got so "alternative" one of their songs was used as the theme for the sentimental NBC dramedy Ed. Medadeth, on the other hand -- they're like the classical composers of thrash metal. Mustaine is widely-considered one of the greatest metal guitarists of all time.

Sure, it's funny that the presidential election's top "culture of life" candidate is endorsed by the guy whose albums include Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good! and Youthanasia. But it's worse that youth candidate Obama is raising money with a band your parents probably listen to. (And that's important to Obama, judging by his reelection campaign's lame-o Spotify playlist.) Still, Santorum shouldn't get too excited, because celebrity endorsements don't do all that much. Kelly Clarkson's support didn't stop Ron Paul from plateauing, and Rick Perry still quit the race despite being backed by Ted Nugent and Toby Keith.
