Robert De Niro's joke about caucasian first ladies isn't even racist, but we have a feeling his comments from an Obama fundraiser are going to fuel some Republican rage today. "Callista Gingrich. Karen Santorum. Ann Romney. Now do you really think our country is ready for a white First Lady?" DeNiro joked to the $5,000-a-head crowd gathered in New York for the Obama Victory Fund last night according to various sources. Politico reports that someone in the crowd shouted, "No!", while the Huffington Post says the crowd "roared" in response as De Niro quickly added, "Too soon, right?"

It's sort of obvious that De Niro's joke was meant as a call back to 2008, when the burning question was: Are we ready for a black president? But considering recent attacks by Rush Limbaugh and others on Cee Lo Green, Bill Maher, and Sandra Fluke, it wouldn't be unexpected if De Niro's political joke somehow gets framed as a war on white, Republican women. Finally, some real star power in this Primary season dramedy.
