Mitt Romney: Huge Chick-Fil-A Fan

In his commencement speech at Liberty University on Saturday, Mitt Romney revealed the snack that helped him outlast the rest of the Republican candidates during the primaries: chicken sandwiches from Chick-Fil-A.

Romney shared the stage at Liberty with Truett Cathy, the 91-year-old founder of the popular restaurants, who was receiving an honorary doctorate at the graduation ceremony, when he told the graduates that he always stops the campaign bus when he sees his secret snack weapon:

In some ways, it is fitting that I share this distinction with Truett Cathy.  The Romney campaign comes to a sudden stop when we spot a Chick-fil-A.  Your chicken sandwiches were our comfort food through the primary season, and there were days that we needed a lot of comforting.  So, Truett, thank you and congratulations on your well-deserved honor today.

The speech at Liberty was supposed to be Mitt's big courting of the evangelical Christian vote (he name dropped Rick Santorum and the recently passed away Chuck Colson elsewhere in his speech), but this line was obviously aimed at the snacking habits of the 20-something graduates. A poll that was just released put Chick-Fil-A among the most popular restaurants with millennials. You can read a full transcript of his speech here
