Mitch Daniels won't be Mitt Romney's vice-president, he'll be president of Purdue University instead, The Indianapolis Star reports. The Indiana governor's second term is up in six months. He briefly considered running for president last year, but chose not to in part because he didn't want to put his complicated family history up for examination by the press. In late January, conservatives like the Weekly Standard's Bill Kristol were still begging Daniels to change his mind. But last week, Daniels said he was "pretty sure" he wasn't being vetted by the Romney campaign, and reiterated his call for a "truce" on social issues, which annoyed conservatives.
