Jon Stewart went after media coverage of the Paul Ryan vice presidential announcement, last night on The Daily Show. Many people said the Ryan pick was an opportunity to start talking about substance in this election. Wait, Stewart said. "As the media, wouldn't you have made it a serious discussion about the real issues from the start? Or did a gypsy put a curse on you?" Alas, even with the substantive Ryan pick, news clips talking about Ryan's high school prom king years and hard, chiseled body abound. The worst offense: Claiming Ryan is like Sarah Palin, except with "substance and a paper trail." Stewart said: "You can't just say a thing is like another thing without the traits that define that thing." It's like saying a thing is amazing, because it's like a bicycle, without wheels, or handlebars, he explained. "Yeah, it's a f**king chair."
