Bob Schieffer Chaperones Romney & Ryan's First TV Date

Bob Schieffer and 60 Minutes scored the first tag team interview with Mitt Romney and his newly-minted VP pick, but the sports that seems mostly closely tied to the questioning was "softball."

In case you missed last night's broadcast, you can watch it below. Obviously, Ryan and Romney got the soundbites they wanted out there ("There's only one president that I know of in history that robbed Medicare, $716 billion to pay for a new risky program of his own that we call Obamacare", "bipartisan origins", "14 years", "no leadership") and it all fits in nicely with the Midwest character stories about Ryan's love for hunting and sleeping in his officeThen againit wasn't just us who were sick of the the soft-serve treatment.

You can decide for yourself, but some highlights — besides Romney/Ryan looking like a happy couple —include the first seven minutes where Schieffer asks Ryan the not-so-tough questions about what it's like to be picked to be VP, how his family felt about his new promotion, or (around 6:22) if Ryan is going be the "attack dog." And then there's (at 6:55) Schieffer saying "he going to put him [Ryan] on the spot" ... by asking if Romney has been "too defensive" about his time at Bain. (You know, instead of asking him about the actual outsourcing or if the attacks are based in truth.) 

The show also declined to air this segment on Medicare, in which (again) Schieffer lets Romney and Ryan off a bit easy about the Ryan budget plan and how it affects Medicare:
