If a convention speaker can "win" Twitter, President Obama, whose speech last night spurred nearly 53,000 tweets per minute at one point, won by a long shot according to Twitter's blog. How did others compare? We charted their numbers for the other high-profile speakers at the Republican and Democratic conventions, and either Democrats are just more prolific tweeters or Obama really just was more conversation worthy. FLOTUS came in second with a little more than 28,000 tweets per minute. The G.O.P. presidential challenger, Mitt Romney, on the other hand, paled in comparison with 14,289 tweets per minute at his peak. And in spite of Paul Ryan's reported buzz, tweeters showed him less love--or hate or attention or whatever these stats measure--during his speech than they showed even women's rights activist Sandra Fluke.

That said, people talked more about #DNC2012 than #RNC2012 on Twitter period, wrote Twitter's Adam Sharp. There were some 9.5 million tweets about Charlotte, compared to about 4 million about Tampa. It's no surprise that Democratic speakers had higher tweet rates.

So congratulations, Mr. President: You won Twitter. This contest does not award any electoral votes.
