September was a big month for the Obama campaign, apparently. The Democrats raised $181 million in September almost entirely on the backs of small donations, according to the President's twitter account.
Here are some things to consider. According to the President, 98 percent of that total was raised through small donations. 1.8 million people donated, with an average donation of $53. This is far and away the largest fundraising month for either campaign so far. (Romney's September numbers haven't been released yet.)
It's actually almost $70 million more than Obama raised in August when he broke the $100 million mark for the first time. The Romney campaign raised $100 million regularly over the summer, but their fundraising efforts have recently slowed down. September's haul will probably help fuel the already heavy ad spending the Obama campaign's been doing lately.
