Susan Rice Admits She Was Wrong, and John McCain Gets What He Wants

All Sen. John McCain ever really said he wanted was for Susan Rice to come out and talk about her statements about the Benghazi attacks, and say that they were wrong. This afternoon — after a morning meeting at her invitation with McCain and Senators Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte that left Graham "disturbed" — Rice appears to have done just that.

McCain has been the chief of the Down with Susan Rice Club since Rice did a tour of the Sunday talk shows to talk about the Benghazi attacks. McCain charges that Rice's implication that the attacks were spontaneous, which was based on the information given to her, was wrong and she needed to be held accountable. The weekend before Thanksgiving, McCain went on CBS' Face the Nation and said he wanted Rice to come on the program again and say, "I was wrong." So, today, McCain got to sit down with Rice by her invitation. And while he's still a little miffed, he's getting what he wants.

Rice's statement reads (emphasis ours):

In the course of the meeting, we explained that the talking points provided by the intelligence community, and the initial assessment upon which they were based, were incorrect in a key respect: there was no protest or demonstration in Benghazi. While we certainly wish that we had had perfect information just days after the terrorist attack, as is often the case, the intelligence assessment has evolved. We stressed that neither I nor anyone else in the Administration intended to mislead the American people at any stage in this process, and the Administration updated Congress and the American people as our assessments evolved.

Strike one line off the Arizona Senator's Christmas list.
