Obama's State of the Union Date Will Not Be Conflicting with Your TV Schedule

According to a Friday letter from Speaker John Boehner to the White House, President Obama's annual State of the Union address is scheduled for Tuesday, February 12, which also happens to be one the most otherwise boring TV nights of the year. While President Obama has yet to accept the date — though it's likely he will — he'll be glad to avoid the scheduling fiasco of 2010, when the White House was pretty much forced to reschedule the address in order to avoid interrupting the season 6 premiere of Lost. President Obama seems to be on a roll with the primetime schedulers, though — the NFL moved its season kickoff for his speech at the Democratic National Convention in September. This year's State of the Union is scheduled later, reports The Hill, because his inauguration is a little later, too. Although it can't help that Survivor is scheduled for the night after.

More seriously: he'll be talking about U.S. immigration policy, one of the positions where Obama supporters are hoping he'll move leftward.

Here's Boehner's letter (via NPR):

Our nation continues to face immense challenges, and the American people expect us to work together in the new year to find meaningful solutions. This will require a willingness to seek common ground as well as presidential leadership. For that reason, the Congress and the Nation would welcome to an opportunity to hear your plan and specific solutions for addressing America's great challenges. Therefore it is my privilege to invite you to speak before a Joint Session of Congress on February 12, 2013 in the House Chamber of the U.S. Capitol Building.
