During his State of the Union rebuttal last night, Florida Senator Marco Rubio took a sip of water in the most awkward way possible — leaning over to a travel-sized bottle of Poland Spring while maintaining eye contact with the TelePrompTer from which was reading his speech. And now, after hundreds of thousands of tweets — including one from Rubio acknowledging the sipping incident — Poland Spring has issued a statement and a photo, seizing a rare moment of heightened brand awareness for... spring water:

Poland Spring's attempt at humor follows Rubio's tour of several morning talk shows, where he discussed the incident. "God has a funny way of reminding us we’re human," he told George Stephanopoulos, somewhat impatiently, on Good Morning America. During Fox and Friends, Rubio told co-host Steve Doocy that "It'd been a long day at work, we'd already done an 18-minute record in Spanish, and, you know, my mouth got dry. What can I say?"
