Morning Vid: Colbert's Slow Reveal of the Oil Spill's Scope

Jake Simpson 70 Views Apr 30, 2010
The catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has reached southeastern shores and become a national emergency. While news outlets belatedly devoted lead coverage to the story, Stephen Colbert highlighted the scope of the disaster with a nifty bit of satire.

The Comedy Central host attempted to downplay several of the most disturbing facts on the spill, playing one sobering news clip after another to contradict each of his "facts." With faux exasperation, Colbert fell back on conservatives' favorite energy slogan.
This is all a part of "Drill, Baby, Drill." Now and then you get an oil slick the size of Delaware growing by 210,000 gallons a day that will devastate all the local wildlife and can't be stopped.
