Sarah Palin: That's Why You Can't Trust Foreign Oil

Heather Horn 14 Views May 5, 2010
It usually doesn''t take much for Sarah Palin to start a media feeding frenzy, and this time was no exception: it started with a single quote from her Twitter account:
Gulf: learn from Alaska's lesson w/foreign oil co's: don't naively trust- VERIFY. Livelihood affected by spill?Don't sign away remedy rights
Cue the reaction.
  • 'This Is Just Too Bizarre Not to Mention,' decides The Huffington Post's Jason Linkins. "Her bottom line: don't trust the foreign oils!" Clearly, he explains, it's "those devious Brits" at work. "Of course, while it's based in Britain, BP is a massive, publicly-traded, multinational energy conglomerate, commonly referred to as a 'supermajor'."
  • 'Seriously' Business Insider's Joe Weisenthal joins in: "According to Sarah Palin, the REAL problem behind the Deepwater Horizon oil spill is that BP is foreign (British)."
  • 'They Lit Us on Fire in 1812,' notes Wonkette's Jim Newell. "And before that, it was even worse: they taxed our luxury goods. We must reject the British East India Company's tasteless mercantilist monopoly of Oile..."
  • Hello? Todd? As one Twitter user points out, Todd Palin worked for BP himself for 18 years.
