Nicholas Carr, a contributor to The Atlantic and author of The Shallows: What The Internet Is Doing To Our Brains, appeared on the Colbert Report last night to discuss the thesis of his new book. The focus of Carr's new book is on the effects of Internet use on cognition. On the air, he mainly discussed multitasking, arguing that as the Internet pushes us to multitask more and more, the worse we get at multitasking itself. "The Internet pushes us to a skimming and scanning form of thinking," said Carr. "I love that!" quipped Colbert. "I know a lot of subjecs but just very little about them. You could not get your ankles wet in me." The full video is certainly worth watching, if you can concentrate on it for long enough.
