Strange Bedfellows

Anderson Cooper's Bonobo-Bunny Suit Video Finally Released

Elspeth Reeve 16 Views Nov 19, 2010

Anderson Cooper set the Internet atwitter when he tweeted photos of himself in a bunny suit. He was later forced to explain that he donned the floppy-eared outfit at the behest of a bonobo.

Cooper was doing a story on a pair of bonobos that researcher Sue Savage-Rumbaugh has trained to communicate in English by using a lexigram board. The apes point to symbols--meaning things like food, or abstract concepts like "want" and "good"--to express themselves. When Cooper visited, they pointed to him, and to "bunny." (A man in a bunny suit had been one of the bonobo's favorite characters from a video teaching them language.) Cooper obliged. Here are the full results.
