Groupon Poaches Google VP as Google Unveils Daily Deal Site

The daily deal coupon wars are heating up. Today Google debuted it's Groupon rival Google Offers in New York City, the Bay Area, and Portland. Just like Groupon and LivingSocial, Google Offers will deliver deals of "50% off or more" on anything from spa treatments to restaurants to yoga classes. You can sign up for its email here. While the move might be dispiriting to Google's less deep-pocketed peers, Groupon executives are no doubt smug about today's other bit of related news: the company has poached Google's vice president of global sales Margo Georgiadis who will become its new COO. This solidifies the simmering rivalry between the two firms which began after Groupon CEO Andrew Mason famously rebuffed a $6 billion offer from Google. Today, Google unveiled its teaser video for the new product:
