We call them smartphones because they can help us find the closest place to get Vietnamese food or take pictures that look like they're from 1920, but apparently we mainly just want them for one, decidedly less impressive thing: video games. According to research from Nielsen, games are the number one mobile app type used, just ahead of the weather and social networking. They also found that games had the highest percentage--93 percent--of people who willing to pay for the app, and they alert us to the fact that the average mobile gamer plays 7.8 hours of games a month. What can we say? The history books will have to be rewritten at some point to include a section about Angry Birds, and well, it's the school children that will judge.
