In Larry Page's first quarter as CEO, the company set a new record for revenue in the second quarter of 2011, earning $9.03 billion--a 32 percent increase from last year's earnings. Google's sites saw revenue increase 39 percent, while revenue from sites that show Google display ads grew 20 percent from the same time a year ago. This afternoon, Page held a call (the transcript is posted on Google+, of course) to discuss the announcement, and also touted other accomplishment's the company has had in the last quarter.

  • Google+ is working--Page confirmed that over 10 million people have joined, "the growth on Google+ has been great--and I’m excited to release some new metrics for you today. Over 10M people have joined Google+
Great achievement for the team." Just two short weeks after its release, that figures is indeed impressive.
  • Not only are people joining the new social network, but they're using it, "There’s also a ton of activity
We are seeing over 1 billion items shared and received in a single day."
  • Not to be confused with the social network, the +1 button, which allows users to recommend sites across the Internet, is also gaining steam, says Page, "Our +1 button is already all over the web. It’s being served 2.3 billion times a day."
  • Google is also holding its own in the telecommunications game, "We actually have a new metric to report of 550,000 Android Devices activated a day! That’s a HUGE number even by Google’s standards."
  • And we can't forget about its up and coming Web browser, Chrome, which Page boasts is "the fastest growing browser, with over 160 million users."

*The original headline to this article incorrectly stated Google's earnings to have been 9.3 billion.
