These Concept Instagram Glasses Should Stay a Concept

After intriguing some with his idea for Instaglasses—spectacles that tint the world like Instagram—designer Markus Gerke has clarified that he has no plans to move these glasses out of the concept phase, to which we say: Phew. As the name promises, these glasses work like the app, but on your face. They work as such: "You activate the glasses by pushing 'Insta' and option to choose between different filters. Are you enjoying a moment? Just take a picture with your glasses and upload the image straight to Instagram," Gerke writes on design site Behance. Sounds easy enough, but also very, very intrusive to one's life and everyone around this person or even to his or her Instagram followers. Plus, they have that creepy computer robot look and feel of those artificial intelligence Google Glasses.

"Wouldn’t it be great to capture your everyday life, your entire life, through beautiful filters?" Gerke asks. Well, yes and no. We can already capture the moments of our choosing on our phones, which has made Instagram simple enough. Having these glasses, however, is literally like walking around with rose colored glasses. Again, this literally, colors one's view of the world, making the wearer believe we live in some Hefe-tinted world, not our boringly real reality. Do we want that?
