If there is a tenable deal (it appears this morning that there is), and if there's no filibuster (it seems to be fizzling), and if the Senate approves it (Democrats seem to have the votes), well, President Obama and advocates for gun control will have reached the top of the hill. Then comes the mountain: the House of Representatives.
From the details revealed in 2,700 pages of documents about the lead-up to Jared Loughner's attack on Giffords in 2011, it seems as though gun control advocates will find much more to strengthen their arguments than will the NRA.
