The Pentagon Takes Its Time Disciplining Soldiers

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has apologized for grisly new photos showing American soldiers posing with the body parts of Taliban suicide bombers and promised that “anyone found responsible for this inhuman conduct will be held accountable.” If similar recent events are any indication, those punishments will be a long time coming.

Robert Bales's Wife Doesn't Think He Was Involved in Afghan Massacre

Afghan officials say that one of Robert Bales's 16 victims was a pregnant woman, possibly explaining why the military has charged Bales with 17 murders. Meanwhile, Bales's wife Kari, in an interview with the Today show this morning, said she isn't convinced Bales was even involved.

U.S. Soldier in Custody After Killing 16 Afghan Civilians

A soldier in Afghanistan wandered off his base and entered three civilian homes, then proceeded to methodically shoot each of the residents in the head. 16 are dead, several of them young children.
