A day after the fourth-ever U.S. case of mad cow disease was confirmed in a California dairy cow, officials are characterizing it as an example of effective inspections, but from other reports it sounds like it was basically a lucky break.

Mad Cow Makes Its Return in California

Hopefully you've already eaten so this little flashback to the early 2000s doesn't put you off your lunch: The USDA has confirmed a case of mad cow disease in Central California, but in the same breath the agency said the disease didn't enter the food supply.
