After 174 days, a bone marrow transplant, and a fight against a life-threatening illness Robin Roberts finally made her return to Good Morning America this morning, capping one of the most inspirational and emotional comeback stories of the past two years.
For the first time in 138 days, Robin Roberts got up at 4 a.m. this morning and appeared on GMA not only to greet us with a "Good Morning America" but, more importantly, to let us and her co-hosts know that she'll be starting her comeback in earnest.
Today, after eight days of chemotherapy, Roberts made another appearance on GMA this time through a video taped from her hospital room, thanking her viewers before her bone marrow transplant this morning.
This is just very sad. Yesterday we mentioned that Robin Roberts left Good Morning America a day early to go and visit her ailing mother, Lucimarian, before the host undergoes bone marrow surgery. Today, we've learned that Lucimarian Roberts died Thursday at the age of 88.
Robin Roberts bid farewell to ABC's Good Morning America this morning and will first visit her sick mother in Mississippi before undergoing treatment for the bone and marrow disease known as MDS. There's no timetable for when she'll be back, but she promised to return.
